Star Wars computer game will not be released due to staff cuts
The game, which was in development, was supposed to be a first-person shooter in the Star Wars universe.
Electronic Arts (EA) is laying off employees around the world, which will prevent the completion of the development of a game based on the Star Wars motif. This is reported by the BBC.
It is known that EA will cut 5% of its staff worldwide – about 670 people.
Company representatives said that the plans to lay off staff are “optimization” and added that this will allow “to give fans a deeper and more complete experience” of the games.
In a letter to staff, CEO Andrew Wilson said that the company has begun contacting affected employees and that the cuts are expected to be completed by the summer. He also explained the decision to develop fewer new games.
“We are also completing game development and moving away from developing future licensed intellectual property that we believe will not succeed in our changing industry,” he wrote.
It was previously reported that a gaming blogger with the nickname Papuga developed an unofficial Ukrainian localization of The Witcher 3.
